Volunteer Opportunities

Reasons People Volunteer
There are a multitude of rewards in volunteering at the Y.  You get to meet new people and make new friends, and you get to make a difference in people’s lives all while developing skills and gaining invaluable experience.  The Y provides people the opportunity to put into practice what they believe about life and give back to their community. Join our team!

How to get Involved
Volunteers can be incorporated into almost all aspects of the Y.  The YMCA of Greater Nashua’s volunteers are the finest role models available to the youth we serve.  Some have a great deal of experience in working with youth and others are looking to become involved.  You will be required to go through an application and background check process.

Y-Achievers Mentors The Y-Achievers is an extracurricular educational and teen mentoring program that focuses on 7th – 12th grade students; engaging them in leadership training, career exploration, and character development. The program involves role models encouraging youth to excel not only in school but also in life.

Becoming a Y-Achievers Mentor helps strengthen our community by seeing that our youth reach their potential. The YMCA of Greater Nashua and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Nashua have teamed up to find enthusiastic, committed individuals for this growing program.

The program runs September – June, meeting two evenings a month in the Y’s Nashua branch.

Please contact Stacy Callahan, of Big Brothers Big Sisters, for more information on becoming a mentor at Stacy@bbbsnashua.org or (603) 883-4851.

Y-Achievers Steering Committee Members The Y-Achievers is an extracurricular educational and teen mentoring program that focuses on 7th-12th grade students; engaging them in leadership training, career exploration, and character development. The program involves role models encouraging youth to excel not only in school but also in life.

The Steering Committee and program director simultaneously plan the scope and curriculum of the program. A major thrust of the Y-Achievers program is to assist teens in establishing and meeting high academic and career expectations. However, the effort goes a step further. It focuses on character development as well, helping teens strengthen positive traits such as respect, responsibility, honesty and caring, as well as self-esteem. These values, in turn, can aid them in leading healthy, productive lives.

The Steering Committee will be divided into three groups: Education/Career Training, Planning and Organizing Special Events and Communications. The group meets every other Thursday in June, July and August from 6:30pm to 8:00pm to prepare for the upcoming Y-Achievers Session year. Starting in September through May , the group meets the first Thursday of every month from 6:30pm-8:00pm.  Please contact Mary Ellen Subisak for more information at msubisak@nmymca.org.
