YMCA Greater Boston

Sovereign Bank continues support

Sovereign Bank continues its longstanding support of the YMCA of Greater Nashua by presenting a check for $5,000 to the organization last week.

The YMCA of Greater Nashua is one of 20 YMCA's in New England chosen to launch the Activate America Initiative.  This innovative public health initiative lead by the YMCA makes healthy living a reality for millions of Americans and was created in response to America's growing obesity, chronic disease and health care crisis.

"Since it began doing business in southern New Hampshire area over seven years ago, Sovereign Bank has placed significant emphasis on helping local agencies make a positive difference in the lives of those who live in the communities we serve.  The YMCA of Greater Nashua plays a key role in promoting the benefits of healthy living, and through its innovative and effective programs helps empower people to make lasting improvements in their lives.  We are happy to help the Y make these programs a reality," said Earl Rosse, Senior Vice President & Commercial Lender in New Hampshire.

The $5,000 donation from Sovereign Bank will enable the YMCA to put some of the keys to healthy living to work in the local community by helping to Activate Greater Nashua. As a first step, the YMCA of Greater Nashua is introducing MobileFit in both its downtown Nashua and Merrimack facilities.  MobileFit is a computer based program that enables an individual to get a wellness routine tailored just for them based on their current level of fitness and their long-term goals.  The individual prints out their wellness routine, completes the workout and logs in on-line from the YMCA or from home and reports how they did and rates the workout.  MobileFit regularly changes the workouts based on the individual's feedback and as they improve their strength and stamina.  In addition, a fitness trainer from the YMCA is assigned to each individual using MobileFit and emails words of encouragement and answers any questions.  MobileFit is available to all YMCA members at no additional charge.

The Sovereign Bank Foundation seeks to support communities where their employees live and work by awarding grants in the areas of Community Investment and Economic Development, Youth and Education, Health and Human Services and Arts and Culture.
